Closing in October

We closed the cabin this weekend suffering through the cold and wind of northern WI. Actually, we ate until we were full and then ate some more. We had Lasagna, pork tenderloin, pulled pork sandwiches, bacon, eggs, pancakes, cookies, etc. etc. etc.

Last sunset of 2009

The road has been repaved. As you can see it's been raised almost 2 ft.

It snowed on Monday. The boat ride across the lake was brutal but the ride back to the cabin in the back of the boat was even worse.

We managed to sneak up on this doe in Jack and Kay's stealth buick.

We took a ride to see the fall colors.
Can't wait until next year.

JJ at the lake

It's impossible to take a bad picture of JJ.

Rib Mountain

On our way up to the lake last weekend, Jan and I stopped at Rib Mountain for a quick visit. We've said for years that we should stop. It is easy to get to because it's right off 51 / 39 and you can drive all the way to the top. It'll cost you $5 for an hour visit unless you want to purchase a pass to all of the WI State Parks. At 1490 feet above sea level it's believed to be the highest location in the state.

I strolled over to look down a couple of the ski slopes. The pictures do not do this justice. It really is very, very steep.

Vacation at the Cabin

Jan and I hope everyone had a great fourth. We had a wonderful time at the cabin this year even though we didn't catch that many fish. Matt caught a 20 in Northern and we caught some decent sized bluegills but no Walleye.

The deer below was real shy but stayed around long enough to get a couple pictures. We saw several while we were there.

We went to see the fireworks again this year. Three Lakes puts on a great show that lasts about a half hour.
An eagle landed in a pine tree next to Quick's pier. It sat up there for most of the afternoon. Matt and I watched for awhile and then left to fish. When we returned it was still there.
We saw a crane fishing along the shoreline and was catching a lot more fish than we were.
We gave it our best shot but the fish just weren't biting that well. We had the whole crew fishing this afternoon.
We bought a hummingbird feeder while we were shopping for groceries and hung it up when we got back. I put the feeder up and walked out to the boat. As I was walking up the steps to the deck I was buzzed by a hummingbird and they were there feeding until we left. It took less than 5 mins. for them to start feeding.
Hey everyone. We've reached a milestone. This is posting number 200. The blog has been up and active since September of 2005. Almost 4 years. Wow!!

Elsie Mae's 1st Birthday Celebration

A little cake sampling, playing "air blow in my face" with Grandpa Roger, am I supposed to keep this headband on?, and toe time with daddy, were a few of the activities for the day.
